What is a Microdegree Program?

Microsoft Skills for Jobs is a  set of microdegree programs gathering several timely accurate courses.

It has been developed in cooperation with universities and mentoring companies.  The microdegree program focuses on a specific competencies. It’s a form of education that allows all kinds of learners to demonstrate mastery in a particular area without needing to complete a full degree program – or be a member/student of a higher education institute. 

Microdegree programs are increasingly popular in fields that are rapidly changing, like technology, where there is a specific set of skills.

Upon completion, learners receive digital LinkedIn badge to their profile to demonstrate their competency in the subject matter and also claim the possibility to have ECTS study credits. The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a tool of the European Higher Education Area for making studies and courses more transparent. It helps learners to move between universities and countries and to have their studies recognized. ECTS allows credits taken at one higher education institution to be counted towards a qualification studied for at another. ECTS credits represent learning based on defined learning outcomes and their associated workload. This is all the latest in the world of learning. Competence

Each course contents have been prepared in cooperation between universities and employer companies to offer you the latest information on the target area in a pedagogically thought-out way, in a format that is interesting and motivating to study.

LinkedIn Badge

Immediately after completing each course, you will receive a LinkedIn badge, which shows that you have completed that course and your knowledge of the subject area.

ECTS Credits

Each course is at university level (EQF7) and measured in ECTS credits. If you are a citizen of the European Union, the credits are automatically registered for you.

Employment

According to the European Commission, there is a gap of approx. 350,000-650,000 between ICT experts and the labor market need in the EU. Mentor companies monitor learners performance and have open job vacancies.

I knew some of the terminologies long ago, but I did not quite understand them. With this course, I get to know them better.

I love that there were a lot of exercises and videos. If it just text, especially long paragraphs, it can get a bit tedious sometimes, but i felt like there was a perfect balance between different types of learning material. Additionally, I understand the exercise of writing a phishing letter, but stillI felt very bad about it, and felt it unethical to have to write sucha letter, even if it was intended to myself.

I am ICT-engineer and working with data/sensitive data in my work and I found this course to be great addition to what i already knew. Keep up the good work and i look forward for more courses like this!

I started the course in the spring, and I noticed that my stamina was not enough to internalize the content because the spring was sucha busy time with other studies. However, during the summer, I approached the course with new energy. Even though I had to go over the first sections I had already done, I feel that I gained a new enthusiasm for the topic. Cyber security greatly interests me as a subject, and as the course has progressed, I’ve noticed my interest in the topic only growing. In addition, I have improved in the English language, and have read the course materials aloud several times.
